Johor Bahru, Malaysia
Greetings from Johor Bahru, Malaysia
Our money is 7,804 rupiah against our aussie dollar and because we are in Malaysia the ringgit is 2.382 against our dollar.
Here in Johor Bahru today it is 29 degrees and moderately cloudy.
Well we are doing a visa run to Johor Bahru at the moment. Last visa run was to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - so we thought we would try something different this time.
Here is the Bali Denpasar airport - pretty deserted!
Well our flight was at 4:50pm so we got here around 7:30pm last night - really easy flight. We fly Air Asia and they are really really good. All the planes we have been on have been really new and the flight staff have always been excellent. We always pay the extra to get Express Boarding as there are no seat allocations otherwise. If you get Express Boarding (75,000 rupiah - which is around $10 aussie dollars each) then you get to go on the plane first - sometimes they actually assign you a seat otherwise you just get on first and get the best seats yourself. This flight there were only 4 people who paid for Express Boarding so it was easy to get the front row seats. It is totally worth it as when they say the plane is ready to board there is a mad (and I mean mad) rush to line up and you get pushed out of the way and people (mostly men I must say) just push you out of the way to get in line first. So it is always good to just sidestep the line into the Express Boarding line.
So we ordered food this time (will get piccies later) and we had Vegetarian Nasi Lemak - which some kind of mock chicken in a fabulous coconut spicy sauce with rice and peanuts. Really nice!
So easy flight - and so darn easy to get through immigration and customs - if only Bali was like this!!! There is no faffing around lining up forever - it is really quick and easy. They have clear signs as to where the buses and taxi counters are - so very easy to find your way around. So it is fixed price with taxis (or teksis) here - which is a great way to go. So it cost 40 Malaysian Ringitts - which is about $16 aussie dollars. It is about a 30 minute drive from the airport to where we are staying in the city business district - just near the causeway across to Singapore!
We are staying at The Puteri Pacific, Johor Bahru at Jalan Abdullah Ibrahim, Johor Bahru, Johor Malaysia. It is super nice - hotels are pretty cheap here - so we were not expecting much - as their website makes it look okay but you usually assume the reality is less than what you see online. But surprisingly, the hotel is better than their website! The lobby is really nice and quite big - which is does not look online.
The room is a good size with a king size bed.
We are on the 10th floor - a non smoking floor - and our room is an Imperial Deluxe room (around 270 RM per night including breakfast - around $110 aussie dollars) - which is great value we think for being so central. The room is a good size too - around 37sqm.
So has a nice sitting area and a big window which overlooks the State Secretariat Building.

The bathroom is a nice size with a full bath...
...and a shower stall with great water pressure and temperature control...
...and a modern toilet...
...and a reasonable size mirror and vanity area...
Here is just a picture of the entry to the room.
And also of the mini bar as everything in the mini bar is free. There are no beer, wine or spirits - you have to order them through room service but quite a few cans of soft drink and 2 bottles of water and a packet of crisps.
The desk area is nice and they have fast internet broadband - for around 56 ringitts for 24 hours.
We were checked in and Peter was hungry so we decided to try out the Lounge on the fourth floor. There was only one other person there but a woman was singing and a guy playing the piano - so it was quite pleasant. We just had one drink (they only had house wine by the glass - all the better wines were by the bottle) - as the Lounge Bar menu was just a snack menu and nothing really suitable for vegetarians.
So Peter was still hungry so he ordered Room Service - so they have a fair selection of vegetarian options - so Peter got the Vegetarian Curry for RM21.00 + 15% - which is about $10 aussie dollars. Peter said it was really tasty and it looked very nice too. It came with steamed rice and a poppadum.
Anyway that is about all for me today - we are off to wander around the town and have a look. We have a couple of vegetarian restaurants we want to try out - so will blog about them later.
So stay safe.
