Qantas cancelled our return flights!

Greetings from Seminyak, Bali

The dollar is still at 7,917 rupiah to our dollar.

Well the weather today is around 31 degrees - so quite warm and a little cloudy.

I cannot talk about the weather without mentioning our total shock here at the awful fires that have raged through Victoria, Australia - I have stayed at Marysville with my brother and his family - and the thought that nearly the whole town is gone is really quite a shock. It was such a pretty little town and to see the devastation on television has been quite quite shocking for Peter and I. Our thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones and for those that have lost their homes. Absolutely shocking!

Well this morning I had to spend quite a long time on Skype with Qantas. Yesterday I was checking my flights home (for some reason - no idea why) on Qantas and noticed that they had cancelled our flights home! Well we would love to stay here but we have the World Internet Summit on the Gold Coast on 11th March 2009 so we had to make sure we could get home in time for that.

Well it took over half an hour just to get a real person to talk to me - thank goodness for Skype! Finally spoke to a lovely woman who had to put me on hold for around 15 minutes while she sorted it all out - she was truly lovely though and most apologetic. So she came back and said all was organised - the flight in question had been re-routed through Darwin and was leaving an hour or so later - so she had to also change our connecting flight from Sydney to the Gold Coast as we weren't getting in to Sydney until much much later.

So I thanked her and then me being curious I went back into Qantas to check and she had booked us in Economy instead of the Star Class we had paid for! Shock horror! So I had to ring Qantas back and was on hold for another 15 minutes or so before speaking to a real person. This time it was a guy and he was quite surprised that I had not been told that the flight in question DID NOT have a StarClass section and all would be travelling in Economy - regardless of what you had booked! Cannot see the logic in that one! So we are now coming back a day earlier and our flight goes direct to Sydney and then connects on an international flight to the Gold Coast - which means we get to travel Star Class all the way - which is great news!

I am still amazed though that we never received an email about our flights being cancelled - we are lucky I just happened to check or we would have been in trouble I think turning up at the airport without any flights booked!

But all is well - everything is sorted and booked! So we leave Denpasar at 10:10pm on Sunday, 8 March 2009 and arrive in Sydney at 6:55am Monday, 9 March 2009. Our connecting flight leaves Sydney at 8:50am and arrives in the Gold Coast at 9.15am.

Well to finish off my post today I want to post a cartoon from one of my favourite series - it is a little dark and a little off centre but hope you enjoy.
